1. Visual Design.

Something is a visual design problem when it involves aesthetic issues such as: colour, style, font, illustration, etc. Typically visual design projects might include icon design, graphic design, splash screen development, etc. Resolving Visual Design problems often prompts an examination of Interface Design.

2. Interface Design.

Interface design goes further than Visual Design as it confronts issues such as layout.

 

3. Interaction Design.

Interaction design begins at a level where one is evaluating the relative merits of a knob over a button for a particular function. It goes onto deciding whether a particular function should exist or not, whether or not an element has a place within the software package. Interaction design culminates with overall concept origination. Resolving Interaction Design problems often prompts an appraisal or reappraisal of the Visual Design.
